FAQ

Q: Why is the registration page password protected?

A: Summer Joy Academy is a program offered by School Connect WA, a nonprofit organization. Enrollment prioritizes BIPOC, under resourced families. Open enrollment is unavailable until all priority students are registered. Update (5/29): Open enrollment has begun.

Q: Why are only Seattle Public School students allowed to register?

A: This summer program is funded by the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning. These grant dollars are intended to close gaps for Seattle Public School students. While there are exceptions, over 90% of our registrations must be currently enrolled Seattle Public School students.

Q: Is my student's attendance mandatory?

A: As an intervention based academic program, attendance is the single most important factor in closing academic gaps and preventing the summer slide. If your child's attendance drops below 80%, they may be removed from the program to make space for another student.

Q: Are meals provided?

A: Yes, We partner with the City of Seattle Summer Food Service Program, Emerald City Food Not Bombs, and the Hana Group to provide healthy meals and snacks. Parents are also encouraged to donate one box of snacks.

Q: How is parent communication handled?

A: We utilize the Procare Mobile App for all communication with parents. You will receive instructions to download the mobile app after completing the registration above.

Q: Is there a program fee?

A: School Connect WA is a non-profit organization that depends on a passionate donor community. Due to a generous grant from the city of Seattle Department of Education we are able to offer this years' Summer Joy Academy at no cost to all participants.

Q: How can I donate and become a supporter of School Connect WA?

A: We need people like you to partner in our mission. You can make tax deductible donations here: www.schoolconnectwa.org/donate.
